Hello
The Waldens are a fun family of five. We enjoy road trips in the summer and have experienced about 25 states by car or van; from the Carolinas to California, logging tens of thousands of miles. Our oldest daughter is attending cosmetology school, our middle daughter plays volleyball and is involved in a peer leadership program heading into her sophomore year in high school, and our 8th grade son plays football, soccer, and runs track. See more below.
Our Story - The Beginning Our story begins in the summer of 1993 after our senior year in high school. Tracy came to Texas from Tucson, AZ where she grew up to attend Fish Camp at Texas A&M University, a freshman orientation program where she would, in the following years, be a Fish Camp counselor. After attending camp, she came to the Dallas area to visit family and one of those family members was a first cousin and soon to be roommate at Texas A&M who I went to high school with at Plano Senior High School. Along with another cousin, they began their journey through the college years along with my roommate who was a high school soccer teammate and friend. We ended up living in the same apartment complex our freshman year and we spent a lot of time together as friends, preparing meals together, hanging out, playing games and closing down the Texas Hall of Fame and Denim & Diamonds, two local country and western dance halls on Friday and Saturday nights. Late sophomore and junior year, I ended up with a girlfriend and we saw less of each other but remained friends. Sometime during my senior year, after a break up, Tracy and I started hanging out like old times, as friends. As time went on, I started having more feelings for her, and one night in her room we were studying and while sitting on the floor I proceeded to turn my back to her and put a sheet over my head. Tracy said, “what are you doing,” and I replied, “I think I have something to tell you.” Naturally, she was just blown away with my mysteriousness and she said, “what?” That’s when the corniest moment in my entire life happened, I said, “I think I like you,” and that’s when Tracy returned to corny comment back by saying, “I think I like you too.” After a few months of dating we embarked on a European backpacking trip, 11 countries in 5 weeks with nearly half of those nights sleeping on a train and waking up in a new place. We experienced so many things including history, culture, food, extreme adventures, and even made the front page of the Munich newspaper. It took five years, but I decided Tracy was the one, so we planned a houseboat trip on Lake Powell with a couple of friends, and both sets parents. Tracy grew up going to Lake Powell every summer, but that summer in 1999 I asked her to marry me after hiking up to a vista overlooking Ribbon Canyon. Once we got up to the overlook, we popped the top on a few Shiner Bocks and took the views in, then our friends told us they were going to hike up a little further. Little did Tracy know, I had one more beer to share, so when I told her she got excited, but what she did not know was I pulled out the ring and proposed while friends videoed from above. In the days before cell phones, we had walkie talkies so we radioed back to the houseboat to let our parents know and the radio waves erupted with excitement and congratulations. The parents had already started celebrating, so we made it back down and celebrated together. to be continued...
